I was a drummer before I was a trader. I fell in love with market patterns the same way I fell in love with music — both have mathematical structure and manifest emotion in rhythm.
My first trade was a takeover. Instant money. Easy, right?
Then came the losses — and eventually what I call my D-Day: I sold every position at the bottom of a completely normal bull market pullback. I was that guy. I knew just enough to be dangerous and got completely shellacked. That pain forced a decision: quit, or get serious.
I got serious. I found traders with real experience and restructured my life to learn from them. That was the turning point — and I never looked back. Nearly three decades later, I founded the quant firm Alphatative, built the Stratversify L/S Equity strategy, won BattleFin's Sharpe Ratio Shootout over 3,200+ competitors worldwide, took first at NAAIM's Strategy Competition, and have been featured in Bloomberg, Traders Magazine, QuantFORUM, Chat With Traders, Hedge Fund Alert, Algorithmic Advantage, and elsewhere.
